K-35 Line Project

On August 28 and 29, 2011, Tropical Storm Irene caused major flooding and widespread damage throughout Vermont. The damage included destruction of three VELCO electric transmission structures in the town of Clarendon on the K-35, 115kV transmission line between the North Rutland and Cold River Substations. In addition, approximately 2,100 feet of transmission conductor and communications cable were destroyed, and 1,00 feet of right of way was washed away by the Cold River.

VELCO began clean up and repair work immediately after receiving the Governor's waiver on August 29, 2011. The repair and reconstruction work involved relocating a portion ofthe transmission line to account or the Cold River's shift, requiring VELCO to obtain new right of way to support replacement structures. VELCO placed the line back into service on September 10, 2011.
