Rutland, VT – (October 21, 2019) The 2019 VELCO charity golf tournament raised over $15,000 in its 24th year on September 6 at the Proctor Pittsford Country Club. The proceeds will be donated to the Rutland Autism Family Group, a grassroots non-profit organization raising awareness and acceptance of autism.

“Three years ago, a small group of parents recognized an unmet need for our children with autism,” said Heather Hildenbrant, co-founder of Rutland Autism Family Group. “We felt overwhelmed and isolated and wanted more for our kids. We have financed ourselves so far and never imagined a donation this generous. We are very appreciative of VELCO for choosing the Rutland Family Autism Group as the beneficiary because we can do so much more for the families and kids with autism.”

Sue Notte, a VELCO organizer of the event expressed her excitement for another successful charitable event. “We look forward to this event every year because it brings the VELCO employees, family members, and our business partners together for a fun day. The turnout speaks volumes to the commitment by all participants and supporters who give to help a great cause.  Their generosity is overwhelming and is why we continue the VELCO Open charitable tradition.”

Contributions raised through the VELCO Open will provide opportunities for positive growth and enrichment to those with autism, their families, caregivers, and friends. Rutland Autism Family Group strives to provide opportunities for autistic children to have typical childhood experiences, create a culture of support for families living with autism, and work with the government and community agencies to ensure adequate services for individuals with autism and their families.

VELCO extends a heartfelt thank you to all the sponsors, players, and volunteers for making the 2019 charity golf event a great success.
